At Antiqva Clio, our civil section delves into the study and dissemination of the customs and daily life of the Romans in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD, a time marked by the expansion and splendor of the Empire. We observe with fascination how, despite the passage of centuries, many of the daily activities of that time echo in the present, even though they are now carried out with more modern tools. From the preparation of food in taverns to transactions in the bustling market, and education in schools, we seek to understand and share every aspect of Roman civil life.
Our focus is not limited to the recreation of trades and social classes, but also encompasses the rich tapestry of human experience. We organize talks and conferences that illuminate the lives of Roman citizens, from their daily routines to the rituals that marked the most significant moments of their lives: marriages, births, divorces, and funerals. Each event is an opportunity for participants to immerse themselves in history, experiencing firsthand the traditions and practices that defined Roman civilization.
Furthermore, Antiqva Clio is committed to providing high-quality historical dissemination. To this end, we enhance our activities with detailed reconstructions and in-depth explanations that transport attendees to another time. In doing so, we not only educate about the past but also reflect on our own culture and society, finding parallels and differences that enrich our understanding of the Roman legacy and its enduring influence on the contemporary world.
